What a difference a day made here on James Lake! The ice went off the lake on May 7, about two weeks later than it has in recent years. Just a day before, there had been quite a bit of ice floating in the south arm, and our sauna dock was still largely iced in.
Normally we would wait for nature to do its thing, but the inspection of a faulty water line required us to open things up near the dock, where the pipe runs. (The impending arrival of a large school group motivated us to fix the problem as soon as possible!) Canoe guru John Kilbridge took to the water, wielding an ice chisel like a paddle.
All John and Francis’ hard work paid off – they fixed the pipe and accelerated the thaw of ice by the dock. Sauna, here we come!
